ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING RULES ARE IN EFFECT ALL WEEK

The inbound south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. That’ll send some traffic south to the Holland Tunnel, where one inbound lane will close during the same hours. So: the Holland will be extra slow from New Jersey all the way onto Canal St.
On West St./Route 9A, one lane will close in each direction between W. Thames and Vesey Sts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

The Union Square/Broadway Festival will close Broadway between 17th and 23rd Sts. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

From the mailbag:
Dear Transit Sam,
Who’s the genius at NYC DOT that came up with the new ASP sign font? It is so small that you need a ladder to read it. Was it designed to save paint or increase ticketing?
Bob
Dear Bob,
NYC DOT hired a design firm to make the signs clearer with fewer words. But, I’m with you. My old eyes can’t read the new signs from behind the wheel. I will convey your complaint, along with mine, to NYC DOT.
Transit Sam
Lower Manhattanites, send me your traffic and transit questions: transitsam@downtownexpress.com.
