On Earth Day, April 22, New York University will hold its annual V.I.P. Day at which university faculty, students and staff, joined by grade school children from Village schools, spruce up Washington Sq. Park. Flower-bulb planting is always reserved for the school children, who this year will come from P.S. 41, Little Red Schoolhouse and Grace Church School. The other volunteers will do cleanup, paint parks benches and fences and railings and do other needed tasks. According to a university spokesperson, while V.I.P. Day is open to community members, it’s primarily a university event. “Laying aside the school children — if community members show up to participate, they are welcomed,” said John Beckman, “but we do not solicit community members, only students, faculty and staff from N.Y.U.”
