A woman died of her injuries after she was struck by a bus near Central Park on Tuesday morning.
Police say that at 8:52 a.m. on June 16, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a bicyclist struck by a bus in the vicinity of 5th Avenue and 59th Street. Upon their arrival, officers found a 19-year-old woman on the street, unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to her head.
A preliminary investigation found that the victim was riding her bike southbound on 5th Avenue when she collided with an MTA bus, also going southbound on 5th Avenue.
EMS responded to the location and declared the victim dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The bus driver remained at the scene following the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
