Bronx detectives continue to seek the suspect behind a deadly stray bullet shooting last week in which a man was shot dead while sitting on his walker outside a building.
The NYPD released on Sunday morning images of the perpetrator sought for the deadly incident near the corner of East 188th Street and Marion Avenue in Fordham Heights, within the 46th Precinct‘s confines, at about 6:45 p.m. on May 18.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police learned that an unidentified individual, wearing a spotted orange sweatshirt, walked up to the location, pulled out a firearm and began pulling the trigger multiple times.
After unleashing a barrage of bullets, cops said, the gunman fled on foot eastbound on East 188th Street to parts unknown.
One of the shots struck 57-year-old Kevin Jennings, a resident of College Avenue in the Bronx, in the head as he sat on his walker outside the location. He was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Barnabas Hospital.
A second stray bullet hit a 34-year-old woman in her left leg. EMS rushed her to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
It was the second deadly stray bullet shooting to hit the Bronx in less than a week. On May 12, 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey lost her life when a 14-year-old male gunman fired rounds during what police called a “schoolyard fight” near the Bronx College and Career Preparatory High School.
Even though shootings have dropped around the Bronx this year, the two deadly stray bullet shootings have caused alarm among local residents and police — especially since several such incidents have been linked to teenage participants.
