BRONX — New York Mets infielder Luis Guillorme is expected to miss four-to-six weeks due to a Grade 2 strain suffered in his right calf, the team announced on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury during the Mets’ 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday during the sixth inning after chasing down a Rafael Devers groundball that deflected off his chest.
The Mets placed Guillorme on the injured list, but he underwent additional imaging to decipher the severity of the strain.
It’s been a frustrating season for the utility man, who missed a month due to a groin issue before getting optioned down to Triple-A in May when the team called up Mark Vientos in mid-May. He was recalled on June 9 after Pete Alonso went on the IL with a bone bruise.
In 50 games, he batted .238 with a .650 OPS, one home run, and nine RBI while appearing at second base, third base, and shortstop.
