Angela Bassett joins Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ film

Academy Award-nominee Angela Bassett will play Ramonda, mother of the title character in Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Black Panther.”

Marvel announced Monday that the “What’s Love Got to Do with It” star, 58, will join Chadwick Boseman — who plays T’Challa, king of the high-tech African nation Wakanda and the superhero Black Panther — along with Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and others in director Ryan Coogler’s film, scheduled for release Feb. 16, 2018.

The character was created by writer Don McGregor and artist Gene Colan in the 1980s Black Panther series in “Marvel Comics Presents.”
