Tennis may come second to the culinary options in 2015, with celebrity chefs, local ingredients and plenty of wine in tow to keep fans well-satiated in between matches.
700,000 tennis fans are heading to the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing this week along with over 12,000 pounds of Jersey tomatoes, 4,230 pounds of salad greens from Long Island and 7.5 tons of shrimp, crab and lobster.
The USTA tries to limit the ecological impact of all this food, recycling gallons of leftover cooking grease, composting 240 tons of waste and collecting unsold food to donate to the community.
