Adrienne Eldred, a resident of MacDougal St. for 30 years, died in St. Vincent’s Hospital on July 16 at the age of 69. She had been suffering from emphysema, said her daughter, Alexandra Feigin.
Born in Los Angeles, she came to New York where she made a home for her two children and her mother. “The Village was her home and MacDougal St. was her refuge,” said her daughter.
Peggy Friedman, organizer of the Washington Sq. Music Festival, a friend for 30 years, recalled meeting Adrienne at HB Studio in the Village where both were studying acting in the 1960s. “She acted with me in our collective performance company, One Act Theatre. Many Villagers knew her and had their lives touched by her kindness, generosity and good humor,” Friedman said.
In addition to her daughter, her son, Tigran, and her mother, Helen Horowitz, survive. Her son-in-law, Andrew Feigin, and granddaughters Madeline, Emma and Bella Feigin also survive.
A memorial celebration was held at her MacDougal St. apartment on Aug. 14.
