Police are searching for the suspect who allegedly attacked a teen last week in the Flatiron District using an unlikely weapon: a book.
According to law enforcement sources, on Monday, Aug. 19, at approximately 9:33 p.m., an 18-year-old woman was walking in front of 24 West 25th St. when she was attacked.
A man — unknown to the victim — came right up to her and slammed her in the face with a book, causing pain, bruising and swelling to her nose, police said. Law enforcement sources did not specify the type of book used in the attack.
Following the assault, the brazen book brute fled the scene on foot, eastbound on West 25th Street.
Officers from the 13th Precinct responded after receiving a 911 call about the incident. Police sources said the victim was not hospitalized for her injuries.
So far, no arrests have been made, but police on Monday released a photo and video footage of the suspect at large. He is described as having a slim build and dark complexion. He was last seen wearing gray shorts and white sneakers, holding a white T-shirt, and the book inside his waist.
The investigation remains ongoing.
