The results of restaurant inspections usually cause a minor sensation. Now, the Department of Health has made it easier than ever for diners to discover how their neighborhood restaurant measure up.
Interested restaurant patrons can now search restaurants by name, neighborhood, borough, or alphabetically through the improved, more user-friendly Web site www.nyc.gov/health/restaurants.
The restaurants are scored on possible health violations. The lower the number the less violations have been found, and any restaurant with a score under 27 passes, while a score over 28 requires a second inspection. The average score is 13.
The revamped Web site makes it easier to search, but it also responds to criticism of the information that was available in the past, when the nature of a restaurant’s violations were not easily accessible.
