According to police sources, gunfire rang out near 420 West 19th St. at around 9:42 p.m. on April 2, prompting a slew of 911 calls.

Officers from the 10th Precinct arrived and found a 30-year-old man on the ground in the rear of the building, with a gunshot wound to the back.

Moments earlier, an eyewitness told police, an unidentified man had fired several rounds toward the basketball court before fleeing in a gray sedan, law enforcement sources said.

Police sealed off the area as dozens of residents watched EMS place the victim on a stretcher before rushing him to Bellevue Hospital; he is expected to survive his injuries.
