Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, above, appeared at Lower Manhattan’s Battery Gardens Restaurant Monday night for the unveiling of “Montana”, a limited edition action picture of the retired 49er by artist Carlo Beninati. Chalk session
Although the protester arrest cases from the Republican National Convention are still being sorted out, one case civil rights attorney Norman Siegel has is that of Josh Kinberg, who was arrested for having an unusual bike that writes messages on the street with chalk, similar to skywriters. Siegel said he may very well have to call as a witness MSNBC reporter Ronald Reagan, Jr., who was interviewing Kinberg at the time.
Solaire tour
The Downtown Soliare environmentally advanced residential tower, will be open to the public for tours of its building systems, lobby and apartments on Saturday October 9 and Sunday October 10.
The riverside building located on 20 River Terrace at the corner of Murray St. is designed to provide a healthy living environment for urban families. The 27-story building, is LEED Gold Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, and boasts exterior wall solar pumps, converting sunlight to electricity, generating five percent of the buildings base electrical load. There is also computer monitored filtered fresh air supply and storm water catchment system to irrigate the rooftop garden.

C.B. 1 meetings
The upcoming week’s schedule of Community Board 1 committee meetings is below. Unless otherwise noted, all committee meetings are held at the board office located at 49 Chambers St., Room 709.
On Tues., Oct 12 the Seaport/Civic Center Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. to discuss and draft resolutions regarding the following: a proposal to co-name Elk St. between Duane St. and Chambers St. “African Burial Ground Way”; a proposal to co-name Water St. between Fulton and John Sts. “New York Naval Militia Place.” The committee will also hear a report regarding the NYU Downtown Hospital site; and a report by the Dept. of Transportation on the installation of new curbs on Peck Slip.
On Wed., Oct. 13 the Executive Committee will meet at 6:00 p.m. to discuss and draft a resolution about capital and expense budget priorities; and hear committee reports.
On Thurs., Oct. 14 the Financial District Committee will meet at 6 p.m. at the board office, room 501 for an update about the redesign of Louise Nevelson Plaza; and to draft a resolution regarding 20 Maiden Lane, application for B.S.A. variance from the bulk regulations to permit the construction of a hotel.
On Thurs., Oct. 14 the Landmarks Committee will meet at 6 p.m. to discuss and draft resolutions regarding the following: 157 Hudson St. – an application to alter the ground floor and construct a three story rooftop addition with mechanical equipment and an application to request that LPC issue a report to the City Planning Commission for a modification of use; 77 White St. – an application to construct a two story rooftop addition, modify entrances and install a canopy; 452 Greenwich St. – an application to legalize LPC violations regarding lintels and sills and for pointing; 245 Water St. – an application to alter ground floor and construct a stair bulkhead, storage room and pergola on the roof; and 66-68 Reade St. — an application for the removal and replacement of metal and glass vault covers.
