A two-alarm fire on the morning of Thurs., Nov. 29, at 157 Bowery extensively damaged the three-story building’s first and second floors. The Fire Department received a report of the fire at 9:44 a.m. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 10:22 a.m. Twenty-six units with 110 firefighters responded to the scene. Nine firefighters were injured while putting out the flames and were treated at local hospitals. There were no civilian injuries. The building, located between Broome and Delancey Sts., contains a lighting shop on the ground floor, inside which the fire started. The second and third floors are residential. Firefighter Mike Parrella, a department spokesperson, said the fire’s cause is under investigation.
