Things at The Hallmark senior residence in Battery Park City are back to normal after a gastrointestinal illness hit 37 residents and staff. Nancy Weir, a spokesperson for Hallmark, said, “The situation has been very good for the past few weeks. All of the cases appear to have cleared, everybody is in good health, and we believe that the last identified case was on or about March 14.”
All communal areas have been reopened following the administration’s closure of public areas to avoid spread of the illness. Dr. Sharon Balter of the city’s Dept. of Health, confirmed Wier’s statement, saying through a spokesperson, “There have been no new cases of G.I. illness at the facility, and we expect this outbreak has resolved. A ‘source’ has not been determined, but viral illness of this type is not uncommon in winter months.”
