The first Greenmarket on the Lower East Side opened with a gala ribbon-cutting ceremony Sun. Sept. 21 in the municipal parking lot at Broome and Ludlow Sts., across from Seward Park High School.
The market, with between 10 and 12 farmers, will operate every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Nov. 30, offering harvest-fresh fruits and vegetables, potted plants, cut flowers and baked goods.
“This is the result of great work by Lower East Side neighbors and we enjoyed fine weather at the opening,” said Andrew Flamm, director of the Lower East Side Business Improvement District, sponsor of the new greenmarket.
