Park lampshades to keep shining

Marjorie Kouns’s “Well-Lit Chess Pieces” is getting an extended run in Washington Square Park.

The public-art project, which features colorful large lampshades on top of the lights at the four corners of the park, will stay up through the end of the year, according to Kouns.

This will allow people to appreciate the atmospheric translucent lampshades — which give the park the feeling of a living room — through the different seasons.
