Physics whizzes

Ellis Darby and Jiayi Lin of New Explorations into Science, Technology and Math High School pose with their poster at the 2009 Siemens Regional Competition in Math, Science and Technology, at Carnegie Mellon University. Their physics project was entitled “Brownian Vortexes of a Colloidal Particle in an Optical Tweezer.” Darby and Lin were among 17 students who made it to the regional competition. They did not make it to the nationals, but they each received a $1,000 scholarship for their work.
