Knock-off knock down
A police officer was severely cut on the right hand and upper chest at about 3 p.m. Wed. March 14 when he and a suspected illegal vendor of counterfeit trademark goods fell through a plate glass window at 321 Church St. at Canal St. police said.
The vendor, Azou Ba, 29, of West New York, N.J., struggled with the officer who was arresting him when they both crashed through the window, police said. The officer was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital and had seven stitches in his hand and 10 in his upper chest. The vendor was treated for minor injuries at St. Vincent’s and was charged with first degree assault, second degree reckless endangerment, trademark counterfeit and resisting arrest.
Knifepoint robbery
A Staten Island man was robbed at knifepoint on Canal and Greene Sts. at about 2 p.m. March 1 by a man who first offered to sell him some sweat shirts, led him across the street and then pulled a kitchen knife on the victim, 17, and demanded that he empty his pockets, police said. The robber, described as a black man about 6’3”, took $25 in cash, a cell phone and a T-Mobile SideKick before fleeing.
Assault on officer
A man acting violently in the Park Pl. subway station on Monday afternoon March 20 punched and kicked the Transit policeman who was arresting him, police said. Felix Roman, 31, was charged with assault and resisting arrest.
Subway robbers
Two robbers stopped a Bronx man as he was going through the turnstile at the Nassau-Fulton station at about 4 a.m. Sat. March 3, punched and kicked him and grabbed the bag of CDs he was carrying, police said. The robbers then dragged the victim, 47, into an Uptown-bound No. 2 train and continued beating him until they fled from the train at 14th St.
Cab fight
Hailing the same cab at Broadway and Warren St. at about 10 p.m. Fri. March 16, a man and a woman got into an argument that escalated when the man tried to settle it with a slap in the face, police said. Douglas Barry, 36, an off-duty city firefighter, was charged with third degree assault. The victim was treated and released at St. Vincent’s Hospital for injuries to her left eye and lip.
ATM robbery
A visitor from France was robbed at knifepoint by a man who followed him into a Bank of America ATM foyer on Broadway near W. Houston St. at 9 a.m. Wed. March 14, police said. The victim, 24, lost $100 in cash and credit cards. He later discovered that $200 in unauthorized charges had been made on a credit card.
King St. burglary
A resident of King St. between Sixth Ave and Varick St. discovered that her front door was unlocked when she returned from work on Thurs. March 8 and found her dog locked in the bathroom, police said. Her dresser drawers were open and jewelry valued at between $7,000 and $10,000 was stolen. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.
Car break-in
A visitor from Arizona who parked his car on Leonard St. just east of Hudson St. at about 5 p.m. Mon. March 19 returned at 1 a.m. to find the driver’s side door had been opened and a laptop computer, luggage and clothes, with a total value of $2,130, were stolen, police said.
Cleaned out
A motorist who brought his car to a carwash at 124 Sixth Ave. at 8 a.m. Mon. March 19 discovered that his wallet, which he had placed in the glove compartment, was gone when he went to pay for the wash, police said.
Truck break-in
A thief broke into the back of a truck parked on Dominick St. at Varick St., across from the foundation construction for the 45-story Trump condo-hotel, sometime on Fri. Sept. 9 and stole a hand truck valued at $250, police said.
Left in hall
A man who left his bag with a laptop computer, Mt. Blanc pen, iPod and a cell phone in a hallway at 63 Wall St., for a minute while he went to the restroom at 5:15 p.m. Mon. March 19, found the property gone when he returned, police said.
Coat closet theft
A woman employee of Becketts, 81 Pearl St., near Hanover Sq. put her bag in the employees’ coat closet on Thurs. March 14 and found it was missing when she went to retrieve it at 3 p.m. police said. She lost $280 in cash and credit cards, but she cancelled the cards before any unauthorized charges had been made, police said.
Laptops missing
The manager of Year Up, a clothing boutique at 55 Exchange Pl. told police on Fri. March 16 that four laptop computers, valued at $1,000 each, were missing from a filing cabinet where they had been since March 12, police said.
Lost bag
A tourist staying at a Midtown hotel who was having breakfast Downtown at Star Café, 32 Broadway put her bag on the counter to pay her check at 10:25 a.m. Sat. March 10 and lost it to a thief a moment later, police said.
Feel her pain
A Manhattan resident told police that someone had lifted her wallet at about 5 p.m. Thurs. March 8 while she was in Au Bon Pain at 80 Pine St. The victim, 26, lost $130 in cash and discovered later that $1,700 in unauthorized charges had been made on her credit card at Macy’s.
