Rape arrest
Police arrested a Lower Manhattan resident on Sunday morning Aug. 24 and charged him with raping a woman who had attended a party in his apartment the night before.
Miguel Bonachea-Soto, 25, of 80 Nassau St., was arrested at 8:30 a.m. after the victim phoned 911 and told police that she had been at a party at the apartment and passed out in the bedroom. When she awoke at 6:15 a.m., she said the suspect was raping her.
He was charged with rape and criminal sexual act, a spokesperson for District Attorney Robert Morgenthau said.
Bonachea-Soto was being held in lieu of $15,000 bail pending an Aug. 29 arraignment.
Drug shooting
A Lower East Side drug sale that went wrong last weekend ended up with one man shot in the jaw and three men arrested, police said.
The victim, 37, was sitting in a car in the Pathmark supermarket parking lot on Pike and Cherry Sts. on Saturday night Aug. 23 with two men, Ronny Alvarez, 20, of Flushing and Julio Andujar, 26, of Stanton St. when a dispute erupted over a heroin deal and the victim began driving away, police said. With the car in motion, Alvarez, fired the shot into the victim’s jaw, jumped out of the car as it crashed to a stop at Catherine Slip and Cherry St., and got into a waiting car driven by Luis Estevez, 33, police said.
Police caught up with the get-away car and arrested Estevez and Alvarez, who broke his arm jumping out of the first car. Alvarez was charged with attempted murder, weapon possession, assault and drug possession and charges against Estevez are pending. Andujar was also arrested and charged with drug possession. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition and Alvarez was also treated at Bellevue for the broken arm, police said.
Bank robber
A man who walked into the Bank of America branch at 126 Delancey St. at 11:50 a.m. Wed., Aug. 20 passed a note to a teller demanding money, police said. The suspect, described as a black man in his 20s, about 6 ft. tall, weighing about 175 lbs with a blue do-rag on his head and wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and sunglasses, fled with an undetermined amount of cash.
