PETIT LARCENY: Could not have been Yogi Bear

Father-son bonding (and perhaps carelessness) cost a Bronx resident about $650 in lost money and property, when they visited Chelsea Waterside Park (btw. W. 23rd & W. 24th Sts. and. 11th & 12th Aves.) on Sat., July 25. The 28-year-old father was sitting on some grass when the notion struck him to view the Hudson River with his kid. The man placed a picnic basket on top of some personal items, which he did not wish to carry, police said. When they returned from the view, they discovered that an unknown perpetrator took a $400 cellphone, a $50 silver Gucci money clip and $200 cash from the makeshift hiding spot.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: Free, unwanted paint job

The driver of a gray Nissan van recalled a parking dispute earlier in the day when he noticed red paint splattered over the hood and windshield of his car at about 1:20 p.m. on Fri., July 24. The 44-year-old Staten Island resident told police that he parked the company vehicle on the 200 block of W. 18th St. (btw. Seventh & Eighth Aves.) about four hours earlier. A police report did not include a description of the other party to the parking dispute.

PETIT LARCENY: Patron can’t leave restaurant so easily

A 45-year-old Chelsea man had lunch at The Fillmore House on Sat., July 25, only to subsequently discover that an unknown person had taken his wheelchair at about 1:30 p.m. The victim parked it near a side entrance to the restaurant (located at 146 10th Ave. btw. W. 19th & W. 20th Sts.), and would not see it again. Police say there was video footage of the misdemeanor crime, but have not yet found a suspect.

GRAND LARCENY: Cost of fun and games

Bob Marley probably would not approve of even his most fervent fan stealing a keychain in his honor — but an unknown thief would take a lot more from a man who was playing soccer at Chelsea Waterside Park (btw. W. 23rd & W. 24th Sts. and 11th & 12th Aves.) in the early evening of Fri., July 24. A police report states that the man had his possessions stowed within his backpack on the side of the field, before the perpetrator fled with them. The missing property included an $80 iPhone, $30 black eyeglasses, $140 in cash, a polo shirt and the Bob Marley keychain, according to the report.

ASSAULT: 14th St. scissor attack

Police say that a 30-year-old homeless woman went after an elderly man near the southwest corner of Seventh Ave. and W. 14th St. on Thurs., July 23. The victim was walking on the sidewalk when the alleged attacker approached him from behind, just before 8 p.m. She then stuck and stabbed him in the left side of his neck with a pair of scissors, resulting in a laceration. The victim, a Chelsea resident, told police that the woman continued to try to get another piece of him before fleeing. Police soon apprehended a suspect who was charged with felony assault.
