Woman shot in foot on D
At least three shots were fired outside the Jacob Riis Houses on Avenue D on Wednesday night, July 23, leaving one woman injured.

According to the Daily News, a 53-year Riis resident was sitting on a bench in front of the public-housing complex when she was hit by a stray bullet that pierced her left foot and grazed her right foot.

The gunfire reportedly broke out after two men argued outside the location, at E. 12th St.

“When she heard the first pop she felt something on her foot but she thought it was maybe glass or something,” the woman’s daughter told the News. “She didn’t realize she was hit until she started walking.”

The victim was treated at Bellevue Hospital and was in stable condition, but may need surgery for possible broken bones in her feet.

There have been no arrests.

After the shooting, a police evidence collection team placed three cups in front of the doorway of 178 Avenue D, marking spots where spent bullet casings were recovered.

Homeless assault
Police said that a 30-year-old homeless woman went after an elderly man near the southwest corner of Seventh Ave. and W. 14th St. on Thurs., July 23. The victim was walking on the sidewalk when the alleged attacker approached him from behind just before 8 p.m. She then struck and stabbed him in the left side of his neck with a pair of scissors, resulting in a laceration, police said. The male Chelsea resident told police the woman unsuccessfully tried to stab him again before fleeing. Officers soon apprehended Alexis Starts, who was charged with felony assault.

Teen cat burglar
The noise when a vase fell alerted a 7 Jane St. resident that an intruder was trying to enter an apartment from the fire escape, police said. The alleged burglar then proceeded up the fire escape to try other apartments just before 4 a.m. on Fri., July 24. One resident observed the suspect quietly moving down the fire escape and quickly confronted him.

Police arrived after Shaquille Davis, who is in his teens, allegedly fled the scene, according to a report. He was arrested nearby and charged with felony burglary. The report did not list any stolen items.

Glass-door smash
An argument between two unacquainted men erupted inside Warehouse Wines and Spirits, at 735 Broadway. The confrontation resulted in one of them smashing the front-door glass before fleeing at about 3:35 p.m. on Thurs., July 23, according to a report.

A responding police officer recalled the suspect having been in Washington Square Park prior to the incident, which resulted in less than $250 in damage.

The cop went to the shop to check the video, then headed out to return  to the park with the 30-year-old man who had argued with the door damager.

When they walked out of the location, Joseph Doria, 32, reportedly strolled by. The younger man then told the cop, “That is him. That is the guy who did it.” Doria was arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief.

Bench blowup
Park benches are for sitting, not lying down on, a police officer told a man in  Washington Square Park on Tues., July 21. The cop explained that spreading his possessions across the bench obstructed seating for other people and thus violated local law, according to a report. The cop then left, but returned 10 minutes later.

John Tsombikus, 28, was reportedly still there with his possessions spread out on the bench, including a bedroll and bag. This time, however, the Lower East Side resident was standing on top of the bench yelling profanities. The cop requested ID. Tsombikus had none. The cop tried to arrest him. He received some thrown hot coffee in return. It took a few more officers to subdue Tsombikus, but the police eventually prevailed at about 12:15 p.m.

Tsombikus was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest.
