Following the death of Pope John Paul II, Chico repainted a mural of the late pontiff at E. Houston St. and Avenue B. The Lower East Side graffiti artist had painted a portrait of the pope there before, but covered it over with a painting of Celia Cruz, following the salsa singer’s death in the summer of 2003.
