This carousel, called SeaGlass, is expected open on the east side of Battery Park in 2009. The Battery Conservancy has raised $11.5 million for the carousel and hopes to break ground later this year. Children will sit inside luminescent fish and watch projections of underwater life, in what Warrie Price, president of the conservancy, envisions as an educational experience. The carousel’s green design requires neither heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer.
