Corey Pickering, a Millennium High School teacher, learned Tuesday morning that she won a national award for her Islamic art history course. Pickering spent last summer in Turkey with a Fund for Teachers grant and built the curriculum of her course around her experiences. More than 500 teachers received similar grants for last summer, but Pickering is the only one to win the National Plank Fellowship Award.
