Manhattan detectives are questioning three people after a man was shot in Times Square early on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Officers from the Midtown South Precinct rushed to West 42nd Street and 7th Avenue at around 4:10 a.m. on Sept. 17 after gunfire erupted.
Police sources said the responding officers found a 39-year-old man suffering from a bullet wound to the right leg. EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital for treatment; he is expected to survive his injury.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown and under investigation, cops said. Sources familiar with the case said the victim has a New York address and is not a tourist.
Following the gunfire, police learned three men were seen fleeing the area. After obtaining their description, cops caught up with the trio a short time later and took them into custody for further questioning. Charges against them are pending the ongoing investigation, police said.
The Midtown South Precinct, which covers Times Square and the surrounding area, tallied just five shootings year-to-date through Sept. 15, two more than the three which occurred at the same point last year, according to the most recent CompStat report.
