ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING IS SUSPENDED THURSDAY

President Obama will be in Lower Manhattan Monday evening for a fundraiser at Harvey Weinstein’s home on W 12th St. Expect freezes all along the West Side before and after the event as the Secret Service navigates the West Village, likely taking the Battery Park Underpass and the West Side Highway to and from the usual landing at the Wall St. heliport.

If you’re taking Mom Downtown this week, take note of these street festivals and construction closures: In the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, one tube will close overnight 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights through May 24th. One lane will remain open in each direction in the other tube.

All Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close overnight 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

The Romanian Day Festival will close Broadway between Morris and Stone Sts. and between Liberty St. and Battery Pl. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

On West St. / Route 9A, two southbound lanes will close between W 23rd and Bank Sts. 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday through Friday, 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday, 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday, and 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Monday and Tuesday.

St. Johns Lane between Laight and Beach Sts. and York St. between St. Johns Lane and Sixth Ave. will fully close 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

From the mailbag:

Dear Transit Sam,

I parked at a muni-meter while waiting for my wife to run an errand. I tried to insert a quarter, the meter would not take the coin, and I had to use a credit card. I took the paper receipt and waited in my car. The meter man was walking past my car, and I informed him that the muni-meter was not accepting coins. He said that since I was sitting in my car, I didn’t have to purchase a time receipt, and would not get a summons as long as I sat in the driver’s seat. Was he correct?

Norman, New York

Dear Norman,

Sort of. The parking agent was correct if you had meant to “stand” while you waited for your wife. Since you had purchased a receipt, though, it appeared you had the intention of parking rather than standing. A different parking agent may have issued a ticket if you hadn’t purchased the receipt.
