On Thursday, Congressmember Nydia Velazquez will present the Good Old Lower East Side, Inc. (GOLES), with $300,000 from the Small Business Administration to fund community and economic development programs.
GOLES’ mission is to promote community revitalization in the Lower East Side and plans to use the money to support entrepreneurship among low-income residents. The group hopes to start a variety of programs, including establishing information-technology centers and training local community members on how to launch video and media companies, daycare services and other small business ventures.
Velazquez will present the check to the outgoing executive director of GOLES, Margaret Hughes, and the incoming executive director, Damaris Reyes, at the Nuyorican Poetry Café, at 226 E. Third St., on Thurs., March 31, at 6 p.m.
