Woman found dead inside East Harlem homeless shelter: NYPD

The NYPD is investigating the death of a woman who was found unconscious inside an East Harlem homeless shelter.

According to police, at 10:33 p.m. on July 25 the NYPD responded to a 911 call regarding a woman in need of help at the East River Family Center, located at 325 104th Street. Upon their arrival, officers found a 26-year-old woman at the scene, unconscious and unresponsive, with no obvious signs of trauma.

A spokesperson for the NYPD stated that though there were no signs of trauma, drug paraphernalia was found near the victim. EMS declared the victim dead at the scene — her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.
