Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly stabbed a 25-year-old woman multiple times as she was on board a Brooklyn subway train last week.
According to law enforcement sources, the young woman was riding a northbound D train as it entered the New Utrecht Avenue and 55th Street station at around 1:52 a.m. on May 22 when the horrific attack occurred.
The perp approached the victim, brandished an “unknown sharp object” and stabbed the unsuspecting woman in the torso and on the shoulder, police described. Bloodied and injured from the assault, the victim was able to leave the train at 36th Street to get help. EMS arrived and rushed her to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn in stable condition.
Official sources said the suspect did not rob the woman. It is unclear if the suspect said anything before the unprovoked attack occurred, but police said he did not know the victim.
Meanwhile, the suspect stayed on the train, fleeing the scene to parts unknown before officers from the 66th Precinct and Transit District 34 arrived.
On May 29, the NYPD released surveillance photos of the suspect, who remains at large. He is described as having a light complexion and was last seen wearing a black jacket.
So far, no arrests have been made, but the investigation remains ongoing.
