A Queens man was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly killing his mother the night before.

According to police, at 9:24 a.m. on March 29 officers from the 113th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a woman in need of assistance at 160-46 121st Ave. in South Jamaica. Upon their arrival, police found 61-year-old Natalie Coggins unresponsive and unconscious with a gunshot wound to her head.

Paramedics declared Coggins dead at the scene.

Natalie’s son, 36-year-old Dashawn Coggins, was taken into custody at the scene and was ultimately charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon on March 30.

It was reported by police that Dashawn and Natalie lived at the same residence, however it is not clear what lead to the shooting at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
