Police have identified an innocent bystander who was shot dead with a stray bullet while sitting on his walker in the Bronx on Sunday night — the latest in a spate of similar incidents across the borough.

According to police sources, 57-year-old Kevin Jennings was sitting on his walker along East 188th Street and Marion Avenue in Fordham Heights at approximately 6:49 p.m. on May 18 when gunfire rang out.

One bullet struck Jennings in the head while another clipped a 34-year-old woman in the left leg, law enforcement sources said.

Officers from the 46th Precinct responded to the incident. EMS rushed both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Jennings was pronounced dead. The female victim was listed in stable condition.

Through May 11, the 46th Precinct reported just one homicide and 10 shootings year-to-date, down from the 10 murders and 12 shootings reported at the same point last year.

Sunday’s shooting occurred a day after 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey was laid to rest after she was killed with a stray bullet outside a Bronx school on May 12.

The aspiring nurse was playing on her scooter when she was caught in the path of a bullet allegedly fired by a 14-year-old boy, who has since been charged with Jeffrey’s murder.

In another incident, on May 14, a 15-year-old boy said he was walking with his mother outside of 2244 Williamsbridge Road when he was wounded with a stray bullet. He is now recovering.

There have been no arrests in Sunday’s shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
