Former Jets general manager Joe Douglas has returned to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he will serve as a senior scouting advisor.
Douglas served as Jets general manager from 2019 to 2024 before he was fired mid-season amidst another catastrophic season, which also claimed the job of head coach Robert Saleh.
Gang Green has since hired Darren Mougey as general manager and Aaron Glenn as head coach in an attempt to move out of the shadow cast by the former regime headed up by Douglas.
He made some of the more sizable signings and trades in franchise history, though they ultimately did not pan out, headlined by the acquisition of quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The future Hall-of-Famer was healthy for one of his two seasons with the franchise, but his talents were not enough to save his job amidst a 3-8 start to the 2024-25 season.
Douglas also went out and acquired defensive end Haason Reddick from the Eagles — though he held out for nearly half of the season due to unhappiness with his current contract — and veteran receiver Mike Williams to provide a legitimate No. 2 behind Garrett Wilson.
Williams was an afterthought with Rodgers under center, prompting Douglas to make one more blockbuster by acquiring Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders. New York went 1-4 with Adams during Douglas’ final weeks.
Those are just some of the generational whiffs that Douglas committed during his tenure with Gang Green. He drafted Zach Wilson No. 2 overall in 2021; the BYU product never came close to becoming a franchise quarterback. Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton was also a significant first-round miss a year earlier.
Gang Green went 32-68 in the five-plus seasons with Douglas pulling the strings. Their .320 winning percentage during his tenure was the worst since Rich Kotite ran the show from 1995 to 1996 (4-28, .125 win% %).
Douglas previously served as vice president of player personnel with the Eagles from 2016 to 2019, helping build the team’s first Super Bowl-winning team in 2018.
