The Weekend It List: March 15-17

• Astoria is a massively diverse neighborhood, but one group is making its mark. Hint: Check your calendar.

  Yep, it’s known to some as mini Ireland.

  “Lots of Irish used to live in Woodside and the Bronx, but they’re kind of migrating over to Astoria now, so lots of Irish bars are popping up, which is great,” Louise Egleston, a bartender at staple Cronin and Phelan’s says.

  More than 20 Irish pubs now serve within Astoria, making it a prime hub of St. Patrick’s Day revelry. Dance to live, traditional music at Passage; or keep the party going through Monday at Jack Jones, with its “Recovery St. Patrick’s Day” including draft beers starting at a wee $2 (but increasing in price every half hour).

  If you plan on celebrating at the city’s parade, which is Saturday, you have your pick of parties to hit the rest of the weekend. Or, if you’re looking for something a little more low-key, make your way to a traditional Irish pub like relative newbie Grace’s, which houses what the Irish call a “snug,” a small, private room with cozy booths just right for everything from quiet conversation to shouting sláinte!

• Your streaming options just keep getting better: The Fab Five is back on Netflix Friday.

  The “Queer Eye” experts head to Kansas City, Mo., in season 3 — a change from the previous Georgia setting — to help transform the lives of nine “heroes” (read: makeover subjects). The guys have kept quiet about what emotional moments are to come this season, but culture guru Karamo Brown teases you’ll want to bring the tissues.

  “If ya’ll were having cries before through my therapy sessions on this show, I am so excited for the world to see,” Karamo says. The season 3 heroes “are probably the proudest work I’ve ever done.”

  Among those undergoing physical and emotional breakthroughs courtesy of the Fab Five are a 49-year-old, female prison guard who feels like “one of the boys,” a 14-year-old wandering soul who needs to set down roots to support his son, and two sisters who spend most of their days behind the counter of their father’s barbecue joint. As usual, all will undergo changes to their appearances (by Jonathan Van Ness and Tan France), physical spaces (Bobby Berk), health habits (Antoni Porowski) and social lives (Karamo).

• Hudson Yards has been years in the making. As of Friday, half of the $28 billion development is finally open.

  On the other end of the spectrum from condos starting at $4.3 million is The Vessel, a large, traversable sculpture that’s free of charge to climb. It’s a spectacle that rises a vertical mile from the development’s center, with 2,500 steps, 80 landings and 154 flights of stairs.

  For those who like to keep their feet on the ground, the Public Square and Gardens makes up a good portion of the 14 acres of green space at the development, and holds some 29,000 plants and 200 trees.

  You will need that wallet for the shopping portion of the expedition, and The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards counts more than 100 stores, Neiman Marcus, UNIQLO and Zara among them. As for food, you’re looking at about two dozen options, including Jose Andres’ anticipated market, Mercado Little Spain.

  And then there’s Snark Park, a permanent exhibition space for Snarkitecture, where there will be a rotation of installations, starting with “Lost and Found.” Inside, you’ll find 75 white columns — 25 of them outfitted with surprises — of varying heights, arranged like a forest.

• EDM is having a moment in Brooklyn, so why not join in?

  The borough has emerged as a hub for locally sourced and international electronic music, simultaneously functioning as an alternative to Manhattan’s elite party scene, industry experts say.

  Venues like Elsewhere, Knitting Factory and Bossa Nova Civic Club are hosting DJs both local and international, delivering top-charting dance tracks with a laid-back vibe suited for a new generation of fans.

  There are more than a dozen EDM parities set for this weekend. On Saturday alone, Elsewhere hosts Jacques Renault, Schimanski brings Russian DJ Boris to the city and Bossa Nova Civic Club sees New York’s own electronic music producer John Barera.
