More than 60 vehicles will make their world debut at the New York International Auto Show opening Friday.
This year’s show has the most new cars in its 115-year history. Car enthusiasts and consumers alike can scope out the most innovative 2015 and 2016 models out there, see the world’s coolest supercars up close and take an off-road ride on an 18-foot high “mountain” at the Camp Jeep exhibit. Visitors can also ride in a Toyota Camry through a custom-designed course.
The show runs from Friday to April 12 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center and costs $16 for adults and $7 for kids 12 and under. Download the New York International Auto Show app for updates and details.
These are some highlights:
Lincoln Continental Concept
The Continental Concept creates a new look for Lincoln with an elegant design and new centered chrome grill. The sleek luxury sedan is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 EcoBoost engine and has adaptive steering. But the most innovative feature works when the driver is out of the car: It can sense its owner approaching and lights up inside and outside.
Jaguar F-TYPE
Sporting a new hood design, the upgraded 2016 model boasts new powertrain and driveline features, instinctive all-wheel drive and electric power assisted steering. A new Jaguar control system allows emergency calling and advanced smartphone connectivity.
The 550hp F-TYPE R is available in coupe and convertible models, both with a top speed of 186 mph. The coupe was a finalist in the 2015 World Car Award’s Performance Car of the Year category.
Citroen C4 Cactus
A finalist for the World Car Design of the Year award, the Citroen C4 Cactus is stylish yet functional. It lives up to its name with up to 91 miles a gallon. The Airbump panels on either side protect it from minor scrapes, while the interior features a slim dashboard made possible by moving the airbags to the roof, and a 7-inch touch-screen control panel.
McLaren 675LT
Focused on lightweight, optimized aerodynamics and increased power, this supercar will be the most track-focused, but still road legal McLaren model yet. Powered by a 3.8-liter V8 engine, it can jump from zero to 62 mph in less than three seconds, with a top speed of 205 mph.
Hyundai Santa CruzThis crossover truck is geared toward “urban adventurer” millennials, with an environmentally friendly 2.0-liter turbo diesel powertrain, 190 horsepower and a fuel economy close to 40 miles per gallon. The Santa Cruz can haul much more than it seems, thanks to a tailgate that extends to the size of a mid-size pickup.
Alfa Romeo 4C SpiderThe open-top version of last year’s coupe, the new 4C Spider features an all-aluminum, 1750cc turbocharged direct injection engine with a top speed of 160 mph and variable-valve timing. This small but powerful Italian race-inspired two-seater is sure to turn heads.
Ford GT
The new high-performance Ford supercar boasts a next-generation twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine capable of more than 600 horsepower. The aerodynamic design features lighter materials, minimized drag, carbon-fiber wheels and a rear spoiler that’s reactive to conditions.
