Majors Division – Giants v. Cubs
The Downtown Little League Giants capitalized on strong performances from several players on Sunday to grab a 12-5 victory against the Cubs. After his no-hitter last week, Sam Gilberg again led the Giants in pitching, tallying seven strikeouts and no walks in four innings of work, improving his record to 4-0. Brandon Diaz and Owen Kimmel both provided relief on the mound, after each turned in stellar defensive performances at catcher and shortstop respectively.
The Giants’ Victor Diaz knocked in two runs in the first inning with a double. His teammates, Corey Greenblatt and Max Sternberg, continued their hitting streaks as Greenblatt captured his third double in as many games, while Sternberg picked up two R.B.I. The Giants’ offense also relied on players Francie Seidl-Chodosh, Brandon Diaz, who went 2 -3, and Sam Gilberg’s 2 R.B.I.
Minors Division – Athletics v. Jays
Giving up only one hit and one walk, the Minor Division Athletics broke the Jays’ undefeated streak in a decisive 7-1 victory last Wednesday. Harrison Hatton provided the Athletics with the foundation for the win, manning the mound for the game and only allowing two men on base. Teammate Gabriel Kleiman supplied defensive support and helped lead the offensive charge for the A’s during their win at Coleman Oval in Chinatown.
Minors Division – Pirates v. Marlins
Excellent pitching by their opponents stalled the Minor Division Marlins’ offense as they lost 13-1 last Saturday to the Pirates.
Pirates hurlers Josh Lawrance and Devin Kolb limited the Marlins to only one hit during the contest when LaShawn Moody picked up a double in the second inning.
Junior Minors
The Junior Minors Twins and the Reds battled last Sunday as several players turned in noteworthy performances. Twins’ players Isaiah Barr, Nick Llewelyn, Daniel Komanoff and Adam Kester helped both sides of the plate, while the Reds’ Henry Costello gave a stunning defensive performance as he turned an acrobatic double play for the “Little Red Machine.”
