Gino Lombardi, made Village home after immigrating from San Marino

Gino Lombardi, a resident of the Village since he came to New York with his parents in 1925, died in a Whitestone, Queens, nursing home on Dec. 10 at the age of 95.

He had been hospitalized after taking a fall in August and moved to the nursing home in September, said his niece, Virginia Coy.

He came to New York at the age of 16 with his mother, father and an older cousin, Mario Lombardi, from San Marino, a tiny mountain republic in the middle of Italy. “He was a barber by trade but he worked for years in a factory in Syosset that made radio parts for planes,” said his niece. He retired in 1972.

Gino Lombardi married Erma Tassi, a Village native and the sister of the wife of his cousin Mario. The couple made their home in a walk-up on Greenwich Ave. His wife died in 1998.

His niece is his only survivor. The funeral was on Dec. 14 at our Lady of Pompei Church and burial was in Silver Mount Cemetery on Staten Island. Perazzo Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker St., was in charge of arrangements.
