Add a new tree to the Downtown Christmas lighting mix and forgive the organizers if they think of themselves as an island onto themselves, right. In what the Governors Island Preservation & Education Corporation described as “the first annual tree lighting ceremony in historic Nolan Park” officials flicked the switch on the landmark island Wednesday night near the Admiral’s Quarters in what was one of many tree lighting ceremonies in Lower Manhattan (Governors Island is legally part of Manhattan). Public menorah lightings were harder to come by Downtown during Hanukkah, but the lights at Battery Park City’s South Cove were quietly turned on each night until the holiday ended Tuesday.
