A Karl Rove look-alike mingled among a group of protesters calling themselves Billionaires for Bush on W. 24th St. Wednesday evening, where the real Rove was attending a Bush fundraiser inside Eugene nightclub. Seven hundred people paid $250 to attend the fundraiser, at which Rove, the president’s chief political advisor, was the main speaker. Demonstrators from 9/11Environmental Action and the Sierra Club, protestead against the Bush adminstration’s repsonse to the environmental hazards cause by the collapse of the Twin Towers Jo Polett, 52, a resident of Duane St., charged that the government didn’t test or clean affected apartments soon enough after the World Trade Center’s destruction and put out the message prematurely that Downtown was safe. “It was the Bush administration that sacrificed the health of the public to get Wall St. up and running and satisfy the real estate industry,” she said. “They had the test results and didn’t let anyone know.”
