New community center opens

The Battery Park City Parks Conservancy has opened a new community center providing indoor activities at Suuvesant H.S. The conservancy, which offers more outdoor activities in the warmer months, is using the school gym and swimming pool.

The community center at 345 Chambers St. also offers adult art, figure drawing, and African dance.

Figure drawing, African dance, pilates, Tai Chi and yoga are among the classes offered.

Swimming lessons are offered for people of all ages on Sundays. There are drop-in programs that are free to members, which include family preschool play and teen volleyball.
