Robert Jereski, a candidate for Congress in the East Side’s 14th District, stumped at Union Sq. recently. Jereski, 36, a native Upper East Sider now living in East Midtown, is attacking incumbent, Representative Carolyn Maloney for voting in support of the war in Iraq and the Patriot Act. At right, he spoke at a rally of the No Police State Coalition — however, he asked them to take down their “The Bush Regime Engineered 9/11” banner first. A Maloney spokesperson said the congressmember regrets voting in support of the war but was misled by intelligence failures on Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction and Iraq’s posing an imminent threat to the U.S., and that she would not vote now to reauthorize the Patriot Act.
