blotter

GRAND LARCENY: A dating severance package | Police say that a 38-year-old man reported an unfortunate date on Thurs., July 23. He met an older man online, and things must have initially seemed promising: they spent the night together at the younger man’s pad on the 200 block of W. 18th St. (btw. Seventh & Eighth Aves.). However, he got into the shower at about 11 a.m. the next day, without knowing that he would never see his 50-year-old lover, $3,500 Mac Book Air and $4,200 Louis Vuitton duffle bag ever again.  The perpetrator blocked him from contact. Police say the victim had been living in California since the incident, hence the tardy notification. He needed a police report for insurance reasons, police said.

HARASSMENT: Hugged against her will | A 22-year-old woman found herself the unwilling recipient of a “bear hug” near the northeast corner of Eighth Ave. and W. 23rd St. on Fri., Oct. 2, police said. She was on her way to work at about 10:30 a.m. when an unknown male, about 35 years old, literally picked her up, carried her a short distance, mumbled, and walked away. She did not suffer any injury from the incident, except for the scare.

HARASSMENT: Unwelcome back at former job | One former employee of the American Apparel at 1818 Eighth Ave. made an unexpected return on Fri., Oct. 2. The 21-year-old man entered the store at about 12:15 p.m., began talking loudly and went downstairs to an area only intended for current employees. He subsequently refused to leave for some time, but was not arrested.

PETIT LARCENY: Unsuccessful stab at shoplifting | Cutlery was what a thief desired from the Whole Foods located at 250 Seventh Ave., on Sat., Oct. 3. A 52-year-old Staten Island man came into the store at about 6:30 p.m. and removed a set of chef’s knives worth $140 from a shelf before trying to flee the store. Police arrived on-scene and arrested the man for petty larceny, a misdemeanor.

GRAND LARCENY: Driver puts the brakes on trip to Maryland | On Thurs., Oct. 1, a cab driver took off with his passenger’s luggage as she went to see whether her bus to Baltimore had already left. The cab brought the woman from Bushwick to the intersection of W. 33rd St. and 11th Ave. by 5:45 p.m. The woman told the driver to wait before she would pay him. Instead he took off with her luggage, which included $1,200 worth of photography equipment and $700 worth of clothes.
