The Broadway-Nassau/Fulton St. subway stations are undergoing a major redesign to better connect them to each other and to the World Trade Center Calatrava station under construction. In the meantime, the subways remain open and art lovers can enjoy Fred Dana Marsh’s “Marine Grill Murals” from 1913. Originally, the works were in the McAlpin Hotel at Herald Square, until that was converted to condos and the ceramic tile pieces were stored randomly in two dozen crates. Interns with the MTA Arts for Transit program spent a summer on three large ceramic jig saw puzzles, and the murals were pieced together Downtown in 2000. This mural and its two companions are on the mezzanine level, close to the A train platform and the subway entrance at Fulton and Nassau Sts.
