Kent Barwick, president of the Municipal Art Society, will talk about the past and future of New York’s waterfront at 48 Wall Street on February 21.
Barwick’s lecture is part of a free five-month lecture series called “Downtown Third Thursdays,” where prominent authors, architects, and historians talk about themes and issues that impact Lower Manhattan. The fourth annual “Downtown Third Thursdays,” which is organized by the Downtown Alliance and sponsored by the Trust for Architectural Easements and Haru Sushi, started on Jan. 17 with journalist and author Pete Hamill. Each lecture will be held at a different location in Lower Manhattan with architectural significance.
Winning designer of the World Trade Center Memorial, Michael Arad, will talk about designing the memorial called “Reflecting Absence” on March 20 at 7 World Trade Center, 45th floor
Former White House assistant, author, and producer Dr. Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel will talk about landmarks of New York City at the New York Stock Exchange on April 17. The structure was completed in 1903 and features 52-foot-high marble columns and sculptured frieze.
David Rockwell, American architect, founder and C.E.O. of Rockwell Group, concludes the lecture series on May 15 at the Federal Hall National Memorial, a Greek Revival building and site of George Washington’s inauguration. Rockwell will talk about the Rockwell Group, which teamed up with the Department of Parks and Recreation to design the Burling Slip playground in Lower Manhattan.
