An ironworker slipped and fell 20 feet at the World Trade Center site Tuesday morning but was not seriously injured.
The worker, Guido Castro, with subcontractor Cornell Steel, was taking a break from doing steel erection for the memorial at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday when he slipped on metal decking and fell to a lower level, said Steve Coleman, spokesperson for the Port Authority.
Castro was alert and conscious after the fall but complained of shoulder, arm and hip pain and was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, Coleman said. Castro was wearing proper safety equipment but was not hooked up to a harness because he was on his way off the site for a break, Coleman said.
Coleman said Tuesday that the city had not issued any violations to Cornell Steel or contractor Bovis Lend Lease.
