Police reported on Monday afternoon that a person of interest is being questioned after a woman was stabbed to death in an Upper Manhattan apartment on Monday morning.
Charges against that individual are pending the results of the ongoing investigation, police sources said.
According to police sources, a cleaner was making the rounds inside of 409 West 129th St., a Morningside Heights apartment building, at around 4:25 a.m. on Nov. 10 when they made the grim discovery on the third floor.
NYPD Crime Scene Unit members were seen walking in and out of the building on Monday morning, some carrying brown paper bags with evidence. Sources familiar with the investigation state the murder is being investigated as a domestic incident.
Law enforcement sources said the cleaner came upon the victim lying by the elevator, a 47-year-old woman, who had been clinging to life after suffering multiple stab wounds to her body.
Officers from the 26th Precinct responded to the scene along with EMS units, who rushed the victim to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in critical condition. However, cops said, the woman later succumbed to her injuries; police have withheld her identity at this time, pending family notification.
A first-floor resident of the building, who identified himself to amNewYork as Jay, said Monday that he had known the victim for about two decades and had heard arguing during the early hours of the morning.

“I was up very late, I didn’t hear much, but I heard a commotion between 3 and 4 a.m., like people arguing. It definitely just sounded like arguing,” Jay said. “She was a very nice person.”
The building’s superintendent told amNewYork that he saw the horrendous attack on video surveillance but he would not speak on the incident itself, stating it was far too shocking.
“I saw her on the cameras. When the problem happened. I don’t want to talk about that. I don’t feel good,” the superintendent said. “I don’t know how this happened because they are not a problem person, any, any one of them, they are nice people.”
According to neighbors, the victim had several children, including a 7-year-old and a 14-year-old, as well as two adult sons who no longer reside with her. None of the kids were harmed in the attack.
Violence interrupter Iesha Sekou said she was called to the apartment building around 7 a.m. to offer support.
“We were called this morning at about 7 a.m., maybe 7:30 that a woman had been stabbed 18 times,” Sekou said. “One of the supers, the guys that do maintenance here, found her body.”
The man being questioned by police is reportedly being treated in a local hospital himself for injuries he sustained during the attack and is believed to be known to the victim.
