The New York Giants will be hosting another veteran quarterback at their facilities, as Jameis Winston is set to visit Big Blue on Tuesday.
In hopes of finding a veteran bridge option while potentially getting one of the top passing prospects (Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward) with the No. 3 pick at the 2025 NFL Draft next month, the Giants are interested in bringing on Aaron Rodgers — the 41-year-old future Hall-of-Famer seems to be their first choice.
But reports in the last week have labeled the signing less likely, to which general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have a backup plan. A pair of Super Bowl winners, Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco, visited with the Giants last week.
As it stands, the veteran quarterback market is at Rodgers’s mercy. He is choosing between the Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Once his decision is made, the rest of the dominoes should fall quickly.
Winston, 31, started seven games for the Cleveland Browns last season after Deshaun Watson went down with a season-ending ACL injury. He completed 61.1% of his passes for 2,121 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
It was the most games he started in a season since 2021 with the New Orleans Saints — his second year with the team after his five-year tenure as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter ended following the 2019 season.
The No. 1 overall pick of the 2015 draft out of Florida State threw for 4,000 yards in three of his five seasons with Tampa Bay, including that 2019 season in which he led the league with 5,109 yards, but also threw a league-worst 30 interceptions.
