Riding a three-game winning streak on the back of NFC Offensive Player of the Week, Tommy DeVito, the Giants have firmly established themselves as a team that could sneak into the playoffs and make some noise. Sitting only a game back of the last Wild Card spot, Big Blue has a must-win game on the road in New Orleans ahead of them this week. New York has a chance to leap the Saints in the standings on Sunday and pull themselves closer to playoff contention.

Giants (5-8) vs. Saints (6-7) how to watch

  • Date: Sunday, December 17
  • Time: 1:00 p.m. ET
  • Venue: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, LA
  • TV: Fox

One of the key factors to the Giants’ recent success has been their second-half offense. The ability to make halftime adjustments has led to late comebacks as offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and DeVito have shown the ability to adapt. The Giants have averaged over 12 points per game in the second half in their last three victories, including a 17-point fourth quarter against the Washington Commanders and a 14-point third quarter against the Green Bay Packers Monday night.

Although if the G-Men are going to have success on Sunday, they may want to generate offense in the first 30 minutes. The Saints have the fourth-best defense in the NFL in the second half in terms of points allowed, letting up 7.8 points per game. This will be the best second-half defense the Giants have faced during their streak as Green Bay ranks 13th and Washington ranks 31st.

The Saints, much like their record this year, have been just about average on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. New Orleans is the 13th-ranked offense and defense in the league in terms of yards per game. Playing in the NFC South, the Saints have not exactly been battle-tested this year either. New Orleans entered the year with the second-weakest schedule in the NFL and has the weakest remaining schedule in the league over the last four weeks.

New Orleans does pose unique threats on both sides of the ball though. Running Back Alvin Kamara and TE/QB/Utility player Taysom Hill have been the spark plug to the Saints’ offense throughout the season. Kamara is a dual threat in the backfield, averaging 56.4 yards per game on the ground and 40.2 receiving yards per game. Hill’s role changes from week to week but he can run, catch, and even pass at times, whatever the Saints’ offense needs.

Needless to say, if the “cutlets magic” of DeVito is going to continue, Big Blue will need to bring a well-balanced attack to the table. If the complimentary football continues, a four-game win streak and a chance at a wild card spot will be well within reach.
