Bullets flew on the platform of a Bronx subway station on Tuesday afternoon, leaving a man dead, police sources reported.
The shooting happened at the 170th Street station on the B and D lines in Highbridge at about 2:55 p.m. on Feb. 10.
Sources close to the investigation said the victim, an adult male later determined to be 41 years of age, was shot multiple times during a confrontation on the platform, and there was some sort of physical dispute prior to the shooting. The victim is believed to have been shot once but the bullet may have traveled through, leaving two wounds.
A video on Instagram showed the moments before the shooting, where the victim is seen falling to the ground after the altercation.

EMS rushed him to Lincoln Hospital in very critical condition. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital; police have not yet released his identity.
One shell casing was recovered from the scene. At this time, the incident is not believed to be a random act of violence. MTA workers reported recognizing the victim, who is known to frequent the station.
A large police presence later could be seen staging on 172nd Street and Townsend Avenue after authorities had reason to believe he fled into a nearby apartment building.
“I was going home and I saw a guy get pushed. I saw blood but I didn’t see any shots. The cops came and surrounded the victim,” Anderson Cruz said. “I tried to go home and apparently, he ran into the building I live at. I can’t go home right now.”
Members of the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit were observed ducking under crime scene tape and entering the building, carrying shields and assault rifles. After several minutes inside, they remerged. It is believed the suspect escaped before police entered the building.
The MTA reported that trains skipped the 170 Street station in both directions during the afternoon as the investigation unfolded. NYPD Chief of Transit Joseph Gulotta and Emergency Services Unit members were both spotted at the scene.
