Since 2007, stores around the country have participated in Record Story Day, usually in mid-April, with special vinyl releases of albums and exclusive music merchandise. In an effort to have shoppers stuffing their stockings with vinyl this season, the minds promoting the annual Record Store Day celebration will release exclusive records on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year. We got a preview of their exclusive releases and have picked seven worth spinning on your record player. For a store directory, visit recordstoreday.com Queen, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Photo Credit: Brett Jordan via Flickr The vinyl will include two tracks, one being the classic rock anthem "Bohemian Rhapsody," which turned 40 this past Halloween. Lynyrd Skynyrd, 'Sweet Home Alabama Live at Rockpalast Limited Edition' Photo Credit: Jayuzi via Flickr This RSD First Release captures the southern rock band nearly 19 years after a deadly plane crash took the lives of three of their bandmates. The album features live recordings of surviving members at Rockpalast's Loreley Festival in Germany on June 23, 1996. Jimi Hendrix, 'Burning Desire' Photo Credit: Vinylmeister via Flickr The album contains instrumentals and demos of the guitarist's greatest hits, such as "Astro Man," "Izabella," and "Villanova Junction Blues." This is the first time the posthumous compilation will be issued on vinyl since its release in 2006. Paul McCartney, 'Say Say Say' Photo Credit: Farther Along via Flickr The album features an instrumental version of McCartney's “Say Say Say,” as well as a remix that was originally recorded with late pop icon Michael Jackson. The remix is exclusive to this limited-edition vinyl. Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, 'Live at Winterland '68' Photo Credit: Kevin Dooley via Flickr This vinyl first-timer includes their live renditions of the popular songs including "Piece of My Heart" and "Ball and Chain." Earth, Wind & Fire, 'The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire Vol. 1' Photo Credit: Mike Klubock via Flickr An anthology of feel-good, funky music that will take you back to the height of the disco era. The compilation came out on Nov. 23, 1978, and at the time of its release had found its way onto three of Billboard’s charts. The Clash, "The Clash" Photo Credit: Chris M via Flickr This album was released on April 8, 1977, and is considered a breakthrough for the genre of punk, with its mix of reggae influences. The vinyl available on Black Friday is a limited split-color edition -- only 5,000 numbered copies will be sold.
