David Hasselhoff joins ‘Baywatch’ movie cast

David Hasselhoff is diving into “Baywatch”: The star and executive producer of the 1989-2001 cult classic series about highly attractive lifeguards has joined the big-screen adaptation currently in production.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who takes over Hasselhoff’s role as chief lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, posted a video on social media in which he and Hasselhoff, appearing via phone video, exchange enthusiastic pleasantries.

“Hey, listen,” Johnson, 43, tells him, “I don’t know if the world is ready for both of us. Are you ready?”

“Ah, man, Rock and the Hoff — I was born ready!” answers a smiling Hasselhoff, 63.

“He was born ready!” Johnson tells viewers. “There ain’t no ‘Bay’ without the Hoff! ‘Baywatch’! Get ready world!”

Johnson added in an Instagram post, “Pleasure to officially welcome the original #BAYWATCH gangsta himself David Hasselhoff to our movie! . . . ‘The Hoff’ has been our greatest supporter. Especially once he knew our RATED R movie was going to be a combination of AVENGERS meets ANCHORMAN. . . . Hoff’s a cool dude who’s down to have fun and here’s the best part. He’s been training . . . and gotten in the best shape he’s been in in years! (cue slo-mo running and glistening chest hair. wait, why . . . am I even thinking about Hoff’s chest hair!?)”

No specific role was announced for Hasselhoff, who wrote on his own Instagram page, “Looking forward to Rock and the Hoff . . . ill be ready never you fear forever and always I’m always here!”
